Tough as Porcelain
Ever since I started working with porcelain, I’ve thought about how strong it is. We use it as teeth. We sit on toilets made of it. We eat off of it and drink out of it. It is strong. We’re used to saying something’s “tough as nails,” but I’m starting to say “tough as porcelain.” Because porcelain brings so much more to it than a nail does. It’s beautiful and warms to our body temperature. It glows. It can be matte or polished, buff or glazed, painted and gilded. It can be simple or mind-blowingly beautiful. Or both. We can add color to it and use it to make beautiful things, both decorative and functional.
It can break, sure, but so do nails…and porcelain won’t make your hands stink if you hold it for a while. I didn’t necessarily intend to turn this into a competition, but if you were to say “but nails hold things together,” we could also say that porcelain does, too. In fact, porcelain is what does the holding. Let that sink in.
So, I give you my Tough as Porcelain collection, featuring products in the categories of Pride, Recovery, and Resistance. Being in recovery since 2009, I know a thing or two about accepting what I can’t change and changing the things I can. It doesn’t mean I can’t resist, though. And support. And show pride. And love. And grow. And remap neural pathways. And evolve.
See? Tough as porcelain.
I hope you find something that catches your eye and spirit, because I want you to know that you’re tough as porcelain, too.
