About

Making things out of mud, learning as I go.

My name is Andy Lien (she/her). During the pandemic, my partner, Dan, and I got hooked on “The Great Pottery Throwdown.” After things reopened safely, we took a pottery class for couples and took a shine to it, but only dabbled for a bit. I watched TikToks and Instagrams and all the seasons of the Pottery Throwdown I could find. I was hoping I’d learn by absorbing as much by modeling as possible. I was marginally successful at it.

Then a lot of life happened and ended and started and moved. We left the bustle of almost-St. Paul for the country, both of us returning to our rural roots. And, since moving to a new house, we’ve expanded from a small incidental pottery space in the basement to a less-small, less-incidental pottery space in the lower level of our new home on a beautiful marsh. Hence, the name: Marsh Pottery.

I’ve been experimenting and prototyping much more. I’ve got the headspace for it now that all of that life happened and I prefer to stop the doomscrolling by keeping my hands and eyes busy…and my brain at peace. I even got a kiln of my very own, which I decided to call my Little Mule. It comes with a great learning curve and I am rising to meet it. Slowly, I’m making and adding inventory to sell.

I hope you like what you see. Thank you for visiting and I’ll have more online soon. (I have a dayjob at an organization that I love and respect so this is an evening and weekend thing. Thanks for understanding.)

All my best,

Andy
